Spring into Action 2017

‘Spring into Action’ was a month of co-ordinated action and shared ideas. It was a platform to help groups & individuals across Middlesbrough to make even more of a difference together.

Do you or your community group want to tidy up your street, bring an alley to life or plant a community garden? Read on to find out more about what we did this March. Get in touch if you want to be involved next time.

It’s up to you to decide how to make a difference

Groups of residents making a difference together on their street or alley

60-minute makeovers to make a big impact one afternoon in March

Community groups doing a litter pick or finding a creative way to care for their patch

Meet your neighbours. Share stories. Dream of what your community could become

Caxton-Napier alley greening

Following a series of community action days and shared meals in 2016, during Spring into Action there will be a few similar activities – aimed at tidying the alley and bringing it to life.  We will host one of the 60-minute makeovers, install some art in the alley and run some workshops.

Royally Gardens

For the past few years the team at Royally Gardens have been furnishing the alley, turning it into a space to grow plants and to host community events. This March there will be a 60-minute makeover, a scavenger hunt for families and energy to keep the alley regeneration moving forward.

Athol Street

The Secret Artists are behind a plan to transform the alley behind Athol Street, into a great example of how it can be done. Stay tuned for ways to get involved if you live nearby

People's Park

Site manager Sam Henderson is using a plot within the People’s Park to grow food for Boro Soup and social eating events. If you want to help turn the plot over and learn some basics about managing your own plots, get involved on Wednesdays or Sundays this March

Friends of Nature's World

This dedicated group are continuing their efforts to tend to the former Nature’s World site. This gem in the Boro has the potential to be a real hub again. Thursdays throughout March…. and beyond

There will be a community litterpick in Ayresome Gardens (opposite the One Life centre on Linthorpe Road) on Friday 3rd March at 10am as part of the Great British Spring Clean organised as part of the Middlesbrough volunteer Street Champions initiative. Everyone welcome, and equipment will be provided. Press will be in attendance, but please let the people in charge know if you’d rather not be filmed. It’d be great to have a really big presence. It’s a council event, so any enquiries can be addressed to Jo Rigby on 01642 726001.
